My name is David Shaw. I am delighted to be joining the staff of Seeds of Awareness as a Clinical Supervisor.
I bring a wealth of clinical experience with me that was acquired while employed by Contra Costa County Mental Health for over forty years.
Over the years I worked with a variety of populations, initially working with first break psychotic clients in a creative inpatient unit. During this time I became interested in systems theory and working with families.
I continued on to work with children, adolescents and their families in the communities of West Contra Costa. In addition to my clinical work in the office, my work took me into homes, schools and Juvenile Hall. During the years it has been important for me to explore a variety of clinical approaches so I could better serve my clients. I have become versed in play therapy, sand tray as well as therapies that focus on alleviating trauma.
I have a strong belief that we as clinicians should commit ourselves to our personal development.
I was fortunate to be a student of Stanley Keleman, who developed Formative Psychology. This work has helped me with the challenges of moving through the various phases of life.
As a supervisor I aspire to assist my trainees develop a meaningful relationship with their clients. I enjoy helping trainees develop an approach to clinical work that feels true to them.
