GROUP INTERVIEWS BEGIN MID-MARCH 2017
We are a collaboration of psychologists, marriage and family therapists, school counselors, educators, and trainers who provide therapeutic and educational services to schools and community members. Seeds of Awareness offers wrap around support to schools and communities utilizing our mindfulnessbased methodologies. We value diversity and social equity, which informs all aspects of our organization. We serve schools in 5 counties across the Bay Area: SF, Alameda, Hayward, Marin, Sonoma and more. Our schools range from public, public charter and some private schools.
SCHOOL-BASED COUNSELOR POSITION
We are seeking individuals to work in our mindfulness-based school-based programs. The individuals may be responsible for providing individual child therapy, social skills groups and facilitating classroom mindfulnessbased socioemotional learning skills. We encourage you to pass along this information to any individuals currently seeking a holistic, supportive practicum or internship placement that involves work with children and young people.
Our counselors are supported to develop unique skills to work with children and family in a systems based approach rooted in mindfulness. Counselors are given opportunities in paid programs at Seeds of Awareness, Inc, including Fiddleheads Naturebased social skills groups and our Community Counseling center.(based on experience and performance)*
In addition to ongoing training, support and mentoring, Seeds offers opportunities for community-building, leadership, professional development and Typically, a quarter of our counselors return to Seeds for a following year. These counselors are given more leadership and paid opportunities due to their commitment and service.
Weekly Trainings every Tuesday up to 4 hours in alternating locations
Our trainings focus on the implementation of a MindfulnessBased Social and Emotional Learning Curriculum and Mindfulness-based Child Psychotherapy Approaches
Alternate Tuesdays = Oakland: 1st and 3rd | Petaluma: 2nd and 4th
Weekly Individual Supervision TBD/ Group Supervision as needed
Practicum/Internships typically require a 3-day commitment
Two days are at your respective school site up to 8-12 hours
Tuesdays are always training days up to 3 hours
Individual Supervision (1hr) | Group supervision as needed (2 hrs) TBD
You can expect a total of approximately 16-20 hours/week time commitment.
∙ Currently enrolled in or completed Master’s Degree in counseling, social work, or clinical psychology
∙ Background working with children recommended
∙ Familiarity with Social and Emotional Learning is a plus
∙ Open and comfortable with working with large classrooms of children
∙ Organizational capacity to maintain regular communication with school admin, teachers, parents and
∙ Must be able to arrive to schools and trainings ontime
∙ Must be able to use technology effectively (emails, Google drive, Box)
∙ Must consent and acquire tuberculosis test, background check and fingerprints
∙Students, Interns pursuing licensure in MFT, LCSW, LPCC, or Psy D.
∙Experience working with children and/or adolescents.
∙Experience working with children or adults with special needs preferred.
